Apeel Sciences' Organipeel Approved for USDA Organic Fruits and Vegetables
Apeel Sciences, a company known for producing an edible, plant-based coating to extend the shelf life of fresh fruits and vegetables, has received official approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its Organipeel product. This coating, designed to slow water loss and oxidation, aims to reduce food spoilage and waste.
The organic coating, which cannot be seen or washed off once applied, is made from responsibly sourced plant oils and integrates easily into existing packing lines without major disruption. Organipeel was first approved for use on USDA Organic fruits and vegetables in July 2025.
In a recent post on Instagram, actress Michelle Pfeiffer apologized for her previous accusations against Bill Gates regarding his involvement with Apeel Sciences. Pfeiffer had initially believed that Gates had a role or ownership in the company. However, Apeel Sciences clarified that while the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation provided research grants to the company in its early stages, Gates has no ownership or role in the company today.
