Michael Weinmann returns to SRF as Schweiz aktuell's new anchor in May

Michael Weinmann is set to return to SRF as the new host of Schweiz aktuell, taking over from Oceana Galmarini next May. The move follows a year with Swiss International Air Lines, marking his comeback to the broadcaster where he spent 15 years in various roles.

Weinmann's career at SRF began long before his recent stint outside broadcasting. Over 15 years, he worked as a presenter, editor, and later as a Formula 1 commentator. His commentary role, shared with Nico Müller and Oliver Sittler, started no later than March 2022 before he transitioned to aviation.

SRF's head of television news, Gregor Meier, has welcomed the return. Meier emphasised Weinmann's deep experience and professional expertise as key strengths for the flagship news programme. The broadcaster sees his background as a strong fit for the daily show.

The appointment confirms Weinmann's return to television after his brief time in the airline industry. He will officially begin presenting Schweiz aktuell in May, replacing Galmarini in the anchor role. His prior work at SRF and knowledge of Swiss media are expected to shape the programme's future direction.
