Michael Vick Takes the Helm at Norfolk State

Former NFL star Michael Vick is making a comeback in the world of football, this time as a head coach at Norfolk State University. Vick, who played college football at Virginia Tech and was drafted first overall by the Atlanta Falcons in 2001, has taken the reins of the Norfolk State team.

Vick's coaching career began in 2019 when he worked as the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Legends in the Alliance of American Football league. However, he resigned before coaching a game. Now, he is fully focused on Norfolk State, as he stated to HBCU Gameday.

Norfolk State will enter their game against Sacred Heart on Sept. 20 with a 1-2 record. Vick's first game as a head coach at Norfolk State resulted in a victory, a significant milestone in his coaching career.

Vick's time at Virginia Tech was marked by his impressive rushing ability, as he recorded 16 rushing touchdowns during his collegiate career. His NFL career spanned 13 seasons, where he made a name for himself as a dynamic quarterback, setting numerous records for rushing yards by a quarterback.

However, Lamar Jackson surpassed Vick on the NFL's all-time quarterback rushing yards list during a Christmas Day game against the Houston Texans.

Vick's coaching journey has not been without mentorship. He worked as a coaching intern under Andy Reid at the Kansas City Chiefs. Reid, now the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, sent a heartfelt message to Vick. In 2017, Vick expressed hopes for coaching under Reid.

Meanwhile, Virginia Tech parted ways with their head coach last week, leaving the future of the team uncertain. Chantz Martin, a sports writer for Digital's website, will be keeping a close eye on developments at both Norfolk State and Virginia Tech.
