There are group of people holding placards and walking. These are the trees. I can see small bushes. This is the banner. I can see a building with name boards attached to it. These look like cars. I think these are the current polls.

Michael Sack Elected as New Chairman of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern County Council

Michael Sack, a prominent CDU politician, has been elected as the new chairman of the County Council in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The district administrator of Vorpommern-Greifswald, Sack succeeds Heiko Kärger, who held the position since 2018.

Sack, who emphasized the importance of the six districts where four fifths of the state's residents live, advised the state government to involve the counties early on. He believes that the county council, which provides practical solutions for local problems, has high democratic legitimacy as both district administrators and county council members are directly elected.

The election for the district administrator of Vorpommern-Rügen, where Sack is the current chairman of the district office, is scheduled for May 11, 2025. As of late September 2025, the official successor to Sack has not been confirmed.

Michael Sack's appointment as chairman of the County Council signals a new era for local governance in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. His emphasis on involving counties early and his belief in the democratic legitimacy of the county council indicate a focus on practical, local solutions.
