The much-anticipated opening of the Weinstadt Hallenbad 'Das W', an indoor swimming facility, is just around the corner, scheduled for September 20th. This new event promises to be a significant addition to the community, and the main event is expected to attract media attention.
The name 'Das W' symbolizes water, wine, Weinstadt, joy, well-being, warmth, waves, and energizer, reflecting the pool's intended purpose and the town's rich history.
It is a tradition for mayors to mark the opening of new swimming pools by diving into the waters. However, whether the current mayor of Weinstadt, Michael Scharmann, will follow suit remains a mystery. Previous mayors have made quite a splash at similar events. For instance, Matthias Klopfer, former Schorndorf mayor, performed a backflip from a three-meter board during the opening of the Oskar Frech Bath in March 2008. Similarly, Frank Nopper, former Backnang mayor, paddled through the water in a red and white striped swim trunks and a life ring during the opening of the Wonnemar in Backnang in December 2012.
Christoph Palm, former Fellbach mayor, welcomed guests at the opening of the Fellbach Family and Recreation Bath F3 in September 2013 in a bathrobe and slippers, but did not dive into the waters. It is not clear if Mayor Scharmann will participate in the lifeguard demonstration planned as a special attraction for the opening of the indoor pool 'Das W'.
The opening of the indoor pool 'Das W' comes at a time when budgets are tight, making it a rare event. It is not recommended to use creative nicknames like Zipfele or Nopperado for hall baths in the district.
