Taking on the Green with the Legend

Known for his basketball prowess, Michael Jordan has often been spotted on the golf course. After Matt Fitzpatrick's triumph at the 2022 U.S. Open, the golfing world was abuzz. A text from none other than MJ himself, a member of Fitzpatrick's Florida golf club, was a shock.

"Yeah, I'm a member of his golf club down in Florida, and he let me in," Fitzpatrick shared on the Fore Play Golf podcast. The text from MJ simply read, "Well done." A moment that left the young golfer "pretty blown away."

Fitzpatrick claimed his first major victory at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, on June 19, 2022. He ended the tournament at six-under-par, just one stroke ahead of Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris.

GOLF NEWS YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED

Contrary to popular belief, there’s no verified proof of a personal or professional bond between Jordan and Fitzpatrick. While Jordan is a keen golfer and frequently participates in pro-am events, there's no recorded interaction, collaboration, or public incidents involving both stars.

Fitzpatrick's phone book, if you will, reportedly contains the names of golfing figures only, including his caddie and coach[1].

This year's U.S. Open takes place at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont and Plum, Pennsylvania. Scottie Scheffler, with odds of +275 (as per BetMGM), is the frontrunner, the shortest odds since Tiger Woods in 2009. Woods, with odds of +175, ended up tied for sixth that year. Scheffler is aiming to win his first U.S. Open and avoid Woods' fate.

Scheffler boasts three major victories under his belt—he won the Masters twice and the PGA Championship most recently. As for Fitzpatrick, he hopes to score another text from his old friend MJ when it's all said and done. Fitzpatrick is given 45/1 odds to lift the U.S. Open trophy.
