In an extraordinary display of celebrity memorabilia, a recent auction in the picturesque French city of Nîmes saw a number of iconic items going under the hammer, fetching prices that underscored their cultural significance.

The highlight of the auction, which took place on Wednesday, July 30th afternoon, was Michael Jackson's crystal-embroidered white sock, a relic from the King of Pop's iconic Moonwalk performances. The sock, a part of his stage costume, quickly garnered bids that rose to reach 6,200 euros, eventually being purchased by a family from Bouches-du-Rhône.

The auctioneer started the sale by stating that the sock was once owned by Michael Jackson, setting the stage for a bidding war among eager collectors. The sock, which was discovered after a concert in Nice in 1997 by a technician dismantling the stage, was a rare find that added to its allure.

John Lennon, a former Beatles singer, might have found it hard to believe that one of his molars would become a collector's dream. Yet, one of his teeth was sold for 22,000 euros in a previous auction. The buyer, Eva, expressed her happiness about the purchase, stating that she didn't mind the price because it was a rarity and a memory.

Other notable items that fetched high prices at the auction included Elvis Presley's banana, a sought-after collectible, with his hair strands selling for up to 60,000 euros. A piece of gum chewed by Britney Spears was also sold for 12,000 euros.

The auction also saw the sale of Freddie Mercury's silver comb from Tiffany, which fetched 177,000 euros.

The world of celebrity memorabilia has long been a lucrative market, with items associated with famous figures commanding extraordinary prices. Some of the most expensive items ever sold include Judy Garland’s ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz, which sold for an astonishing $28 million in December 2024, Marilyn Monroe’s white dress from The Seven Year Itch, which fetched $4.6 million at an auction in 2011, and Audrey Hepburn’s Ascot dress from My Fair Lady, which sold for $4.4 million.
