Michael Duffin, Former State Dept. Official, Launches VA-08 Congressional Bid

Michael Duffin, a former United States Department official, has launched his campaign for the Democratic nomination in Virginia's 8th Congressional District. The 47-year-old, who lives in Alexandria with his family, joins two other candidates in seeking the party's nomination.

Duffin's political journey began after he was terminated by the Trump administration in July 2021, along with approximately 1,300 foreign policy employees. The 8th District, rated as solidly Democratic, will hold its primary and candidate filing dates for the 2026 election cycle at a later date.

Duffin, who spent 12 years at the State Department working on counterterrorism and addressing white supremacist organizations, has a platform that focuses on protecting federal workers and easing the economic pain of middle-class families. He aims to restore USA aid programs and expand student loan forgiveness. Duffin's competitors include Hala Ayala, the third Democratic candidate seeking the nomination.

Michael Duffin's campaign for Virginia's 8th Congressional District is centered around his experience in the State Department and his commitment to protecting federal workers and supporting middle-class families. As one of three Democratic candidates, he looks to make an impact in the solidly Democratic district.
