Michael Douglas Lays Bare His Shame for America's Actions

Michael Douglas expresses regret and disappointment towards his native country, the United States - Michael Douglas expresses embarrassment towards the U.S.

Hangin' out with the homies in Italy, Hollywood vet Michael Douglas, 80, let it all hang out about the current state of America. Spillin' the tea at the Taormina Film Fest, the legendary actor had some harsh words for the country he was born in. "This is the craziest time I've ever freakin' seen," he blurted out. "It's like a damn disaster zone out there."

The world's a mess, he continued, livin' in the shadow of "too many conflicts." And guess who's at the helm of the chaos? Yep, you guessed it. The good ol' US of A. "We've gotta take responsibility for the hot mess we've created," he said, not holding back.

He didn't just apologize to our neighbors, Canada and Mexico, but also to every EU and NATO country. "I'm embarrassed as hell and I'm sayin' sorry," he exclaimed, shakin' his head in disbelief. Although he didn't drop Trump's name, it was pretty clear who he was talkin' about without downright savin' the drama.

The Man, The Legend, The Lifetime Achiever

Michael Douglas didn't just come to Taormina empty-handed. This badass earned himself a lifetime achievement award. "Michael Douglas isn't just a star; he's a ****in' mogul of modern cinema," gushed Iris Knobloch, President of Cannes Film Festival. She presented the award in Italy, praisin' him for a career spannin' more than five decades and pickin' roles that showcase the complexities of human nature.

The fest also screened a classic, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," celebratin' its golden anniversary this year. Directed by Milos Forman, the film won a zillion awards, includin' five Oscars. Micahel, son of Hollywood legend Kirk Douglas (who lived until the ripe old age of 103!), made a name for himself not just as an actor, but also as an Oscar-winning producer for this masterpiece and many others.

Nostalgia Night with Dad

The award ceremony was emotional for Michael as he recalled a promotional tour for "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" in Italy, where he met some of the country's greatest directors. He compared it to "one big ol' family" hangin' out, catchin' up over dinner and movies.

But it wasn't just old times with the directors that made him all teary-eyed. Fifty years ago, Michael visited the legendary Cinecittà studios in Rome with his pops, Kirk Douglas. "Man, that's somethin' I still can't believe," said Micahel, wipe on his tears. "My dad and I have rolled cameras for over 150 films in 80 years."

Micahel ain't the only actor in the Douglas clan, though. He promised there'd be a new generation of Douglas in Hollywood, as all three of his children have acted on "The Douglas Legacy." And who knows? Maybe one of 'em might land a role like their fan-favorite Netflix series, "Dynasty."
