Mexico obliterates Brazil 16-0 in historic World Baseball Classic rout
Mexico delivered a dominant performance at the World Baseball Classic, crushing Brazil 16-0. The team set a new record for its largest-ever victory in the tournament, matching its second-biggest winning margin. A relentless offensive display and strong pitching sealed the one-sided result.
Mexico's offence exploded early, scoring four runs in the first inning against Brazil's starter Eric Pardinho. Randy Arozarena, Jonathan Aranda, Alejandro Kirk, Nick Gonzales, and Alek Thomas all contributed to the quick lead.
Jarren Duran extended the advantage in the second inning with a solo home run, pushing the score to 5-0. The fourth inning saw another surge as Mexico added six more runs, including a home run from Kirk, making it 11-0.
By the fifth, Alexis Wilson's RBI hit stretched the lead to 12-0. The sixth inning brought even more firepower: Julián Ornelas and Alek Thomas both hit home runs, taking the score to 16-0.
On the mound, Taijuan Walker dominated, pitching 3.1 innings without allowing a single hit or run. His performance earned him the win in Mexico's second victory of the tournament, following an earlier 8-2 win over Great Britain in Pool B.
The 16-0 win marks Mexico's most lopsided victory in World Baseball Classic history. Strong hitting from multiple players and a shutout on the mound secured the commanding result. The team now advances with momentum after two convincing performances in the competition.
