Mexico City's Tren Ligero adjusts schedules for major upgrades until 2029

Mexico City's Tren Ligero line has introduced new operating schedules from today. The changes come as part of a major project management initiative expected to last until 2029. Passengers will see adjusted service times and temporary bus replacements on certain routes.

Starting 7 March, the Light Rail will run under revised hours to allow for upgrades. Work includes installing new cables, setting up equipment for a train traffic control system, and maintenance between Tasqueña and Estadio Azteca.

On Saturdays, buses will fill gaps in service. From 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM, RTP buses will operate between Tasqueña and Estadio Azteca, then continue to Xochimilco. Later, from 10:00 PM to 11:30 PM, the entire Light Rail line will close, with only RTP buses running the full Tasqueña–Xochimilco route. The full modernisation of the **train** traffic regulation system is set to take three to four years. Officials aim to finish the project by 2028 or 2029. Similar adjustments will apply on weekdays and Sundays, though specific times have not yet been announced.

The temporary changes will remain in place until the upgrades are complete. Passengers should check updated schedules and plan for bus alternatives during closure periods. The project management aims to improve long-term efficiency and reliability on the Tren Ligero line.
