Mexico City braces for freezing mornings despite warm December days

Mexico City will experience a mix of warm days and chilly mornings on December 17, 2021. The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has forecasted partly cloudy skies with temperatures peaking at 22°C, but a yellow alert has been issued for five boroughs due to expected freezing conditions in the early hours.

The day will begin with cold to very cold temperatures, particularly between 3:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. In the boroughs of Álvaro Obregón, Cuajimalpa, La Magdalena Contreras, Milpa Alta, and Tlalpan, readings are predicted to drop as low as 4°C to 6°C. Overnight lows may hover around 15°C, with early Thursday morning temperatures falling further to roughly 10°C.

The weather on December 17 will bring a sharp contrast between daytime warmth and early morning cold. Residents in the alerted boroughs should prepare for near-freezing temperatures before sunrise, while the rest of the city can expect mild conditions with a chance of light rain later in the day. The SMN continues to monitor conditions and will provide updates if necessary.
