Mexico and Honduras Expand Job and Reforestation Programs to Curb Migration

Mexico and Honduras have strengthened their cooperation to tackle migration challenges and boost local development. The two nations announced the second phase of key employment and reforestation programs in Honduras, building on earlier successes.

The expansion was first agreed upon in 2022, following discussions at the Palenque Summit and a January meeting on human mobility. Both countries have now confirmed the next steps for the Sowing Life reforestation scheme and the Youths Building the Future apprenticeship program.

The second phase of these programs will focus on job creation, sustainable agriculture, and community development. By addressing root causes of migration, Mexico and Honduras aim to improve stability and opportunities in the region. The US-funded wages and ongoing collaboration signal continued support for the initiative.
