Mets star Francisco Lindor displays growing exasperation as prolonged struggle persists

In a disappointing turn of events for the New York Mets, shortstop Francisco Lindor made an error on a ground ball in the top of the second inning during Saturday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers, contributing to the team's 7-4 loss.

Lindor, who has been a key offensive and defensive presence for the Mets this season, expressed frustration about the error. He takes a lot of pride in defense and feels it is his responsibility to finish plays for the pitchers. Following the mistake, Lindor stormed into the dugout and slammed his glove on the bench three times, displaying his frustration.

The error occurred on a chopper up the middle, a tough play due to the speed of the batter, Joey Ortiz. The miscue allowed two runs to score, putting the Brewers in a 2-1 lead.

Despite Lindor's offensive prowess this season, with 24 home runs, 71 RBIs, 82 runs scored, and 20 stolen bases, he has been struggling lately. Since the All-Star break, his batting average has dipped to .176 with a .525 OPS.

The Mets' defense has been a concern recently, as they have been giving extra outs and extra bases, which is causing them to pay a price against good teams. In the seventh inning, Ronny Mauricio booted a potential inning-ending grounder, allowing a run to score.

The Mets manager, Carlos Mendoza, acknowledged the team's mistakes, stating that they are not playing good baseball. The team has lost 10 out of their last 11 games, including six straight.

The Mets currently trail the Philadelphia Phillies by 4.5 games. Despite Lindor's recent struggles, he has shown signs of rebounding at the plate, with multiple multi-hit games, including a 3-for-5 performance with a home run and a double.

Lindor also offered support to pitcher Frankie Montas, who had a difficult first year in Queens, with Saturday's game being nothing short of a disaster for him. Lindor believes Montas executed the pitch well and wanted to be there for him.

A glimmer of hope came early in the game when Pete Alonso hit a franchise-record-tying 252nd home run in the top of the second inning to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. However, the team was unable to hold onto the advantage, ultimately falling to the Brewers.
