On this night, Alonso redoubled his efforts, launching a go-ahead homer in the Mets' 9-3 victory over the Cardinals at Busch Stadium. This monumental home run was his ninth against the Cardinals in a row, marking the Mets' longest winning streak against their former division foe.

The Mets gave the Cardinals plenty of contact opportunities, but Alonso's timely blast proved crucial. The slugging first baseman is determined to maintain his sizzling start, boasting an impressive 1.131 OPS in March/April to support a sluggish offensive team at the start of the season.

On this occasion, numerous teammates showed up to back Alonso. The Mets tallied 17 hits in total, with Brandon Nimmo and Francisco Alvarez collecting three apiece. Nimmo reached base five times, contributing a seventh-inning homer to the Mets' offensive surge.

Nimmo commended Alonso, stating, "He's so deserving of that Player of the Month award. It's just another exclamation point on all the work he did in the offseason. It seems like he's in an amazing spot. It's not just a flash in the pan - this is sustained success."

St. Louis starter Sonny Gray allowed the first run, with Nimmo reaching base after the leadoff walk and scoring on Jeff McNeil's ground out. The Cardinals responded with three runs in the first and fourth innings, taking advantage of a few misplays by the Mets' defense.

Clay Holmes provided a quality start, allowing three earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts over six innings. Despite some early struggles, Holmes managed to regroup and retire 10 of the final 11 batters he faced.

Alonso took advantage of an 0-2 changeup from Gray in the fifth inning, sending a two-run homer screaming into center field. This was Alonso's eighth home run in 33 games, giving him 30 RBIs for the season.

Contreras dropped a routine grounder in the fifth inning, allowing Nimmo to score, followed by Alvarez's RBI single, widening the lead to 6-3. Nimmo continued the offensive charge in the seventh, hitting a solo homer off John King for his third homer of the week.

Alvarez capped off the scoring with an RBI single in the ninth, contributing to the Mets' 8-3 victory.

This dominant display from Alonso and the Mets was a testament to their resilience and determination to maintain their early-season success.
