Mets relinquished specified assets to obtain Cedric Mullins in MLB trade deadline deal
In a move aimed at bolstering their outfield, the New York Mets have traded a trio of promising prospects to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for center fielder Cedric Mullins.
Anthony Nunez, Raimon Gomez, and Chandler Marsh, all right-handed pitchers, have shown varying but promising performances in the 2025 season.
Anthony Nunez Impresses as a Reliever
At 24 years old, Anthony Nunez has been the most impressive of the three. Primarily as a reliever, he posted a 2.10 ERA with a 0.94 WHIP and an exceptional strikeout-to-walk ratio of 36:12 over 25.2 innings at Double-A before being promoted to Triple-A Norfolk, where he recorded a 2.02 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in 26.2 innings.
Scouts rate his fastball at 60, with a slider and changeup to complement it. Nunez, who has a fastball that can reach 96 mph, is considered a likely bullpen major leaguer with a 2026 ETA.
Raimon Gomez Shows Elite Velocity but Struggles with Control
Raimon Gomez, a 23-year-old Venezuelan prospect, has a 5-5 record with a 4.63 ERA in 35 innings between High-A and Single-A, featuring 48 strikeouts but with a higher 26 walks and five hit batters. Notably, he threw pitches up to 104.5 mph, the fastest recorded at a Statcast ballpark in 2025.
Gomez, who signed with the Mets in 2021, ranks as the Mets’ No. 22 prospect by Baseball America and No. 30 by MLB Pipeline. However, his control and consistency are concerns.
Chandler Marsh: A Promising Young Reliever
Chandler Marsh, unlike Gomez and Nunez, was an undrafted free agent. The 22-year-old has a 4-1 record with a 2.57 ERA over 42 innings in High-A and Single-A, recording 52 strikeouts and 17 walks in 33 appearances.
Marsh, who was the lone unranked player from the Mets' top-30 list, is a solid middle-tier prospect.
Before being traded to the Mets, Anthony Nunez played in San Diego's pipeline for two years. Raimon Gomez, originally drafted by the Orioles in 2015 in the 13th round, was the Mets' No. 30 prospect before the trade.
Cedric Mullins, who has played for the Orioles since his draft, has played center field for them. He was originally drafted by the Orioles in 2015 in the 13th round.
With this deal, the Mets aim to address their need in center field, acquiring Mullins from the Orioles. The three pitchers represent mid-level talent prospects that the Orioles acquired in exchange for Mullins.
