Buttó, who was signed as an international free agent by the Mets in 2017, made his MLB debut for the team on Aug. 21, 2022. During the announcement of the trade at Petco Park, Buttó was in the bullpen and seemed to be emotional upon learning about the deal. He later got up off the bench, walked out of the bullpen, and said his goodbyes to players inside the Mets' dugout before dipping his head down and wiping his face.
José Rosado, the Mets' bullpen coach, appeared to deliver the news to Buttó. After delivering the news, Rosado patted Buttó on the knee. The trade was reported by The Post's Joel Sherman.
Tidwell, a promising pitching prospect, had a career average of 8.8 strikeouts per nine innings. His 2025 season saw his ERA rise from 2.55 to 3.64, but he remains a highly regarded prospect. Gilbert, too, is a capable outfielder, with a strong performance in the minors.
