Mets pitcher David Peterson delivers an impressive eight-inning performance, leading to the team's third consecutive victory.

The New York Mets continued their impressive form on August 19, 2025, as they defeated the Washington Nationals 8-1 for a third consecutive victory. The win was spearheaded by a stellar performance from David Peterson, who pitched eight innings, struck out 10 batters, and allowed only four hits.

Peterson, who began his career with the Nationals, showcased his dominance from the get-go. Through the first five innings, he was near-perfect, demonstrating his role as the Mets' workhorse starter. He only allowed a leadoff single to Andres Chaparro in the sixth, quickly followed by a double play.

The Mets' offense provided Peterson with ample support. In the third inning, they exploded with five runs, with Mark Vientos delivering the loudest hit with a two-run homer. This was followed by homers from Brett Baty, Juan Soto, and Jeff McNeil, who homered in the ninth inning, finishing 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Soto's homer, his 31st of the season, cleared the left-field fence in the seventh. Baty's homer in the sixth, his 14th of the season and third in seven games, gave the Mets a 6-0 lead.

Clay Holmes had a one-run appearance on Sunday, while Nolan McLean made an impressive major league debut on Saturday. However, the focus of the night was undoubtedly on Peterson, who has one earned run over 17 innings against the Nationals this season.

Unfortunately, the Mets were without Francisco Alvarez, who was placed on the injured list with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right thumb. The search for relevant updates on his injury status yielded no results, leaving his return date uncertain.

The Mets will look to extend their winning streak when they face the Nationals again on August 20. With Peterson in top form and the offense firing on all cylinders, they will be confident of maintaining their momentum.
