Mets' general manager, David Stearns, discusses the reasons behind the team's delay in promoting top pitching prospects.

The Mets' Starting Rotation Struggles and the Potential Call-Up of Prospects McLean and Sproat

The New York Mets are currently grappling with ongoing struggles in their starting rotation, but a potential solution may be on the horizon in the form of prospects Brandon Sproat and Nolan McLean. Despite the team's ongoing issues, Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns has not yet decided to call up these pitching prospects.

Both Sproat and McLean, 24-year-old right-handers developed by the Mets, are performing well in Triple-A Syracuse. McLean, in particular, has a 2.81 ERA in 15 appearances (12 starts), while Sproat has allowed just two earned runs over his past six starts.

Stearns has acknowledged the potential of these young pitchers, saying, "We may get to the point where we decide that it's the best thing to do to bring one or both of them here. But we're not at that point right now"[1][2]. He has also expressed confidence in the current group of starters, defending the team's approach and choosing to strengthen the bullpen instead.

The Mets' recent acquisition of bullpen arms has been met with positive feedback, with Stearns indicating that the team is happy with the progress they are making. However, the decision to prioritize the bullpen over adding a starter has sparked concern among some fans.

As the Mets continue to rely on veterans like Frankie Montas, who has struggled recently, the fanbase is eager for answers regarding the potential call-up of McLean and Sproat. While Stearns has indicated that the prospects are getting close, no official decision has been made to bring either pitcher up to the major league club as of early August 2025.

In the meantime, McLean dominated Double-A early in the season before earning his promotion to Triple-A. Sproat, on the other hand, has been steadily improving and could be ready to make his major-league debut soon. If the Mets' starting rotation struggles persist, McLean and Sproat could be called up to provide some much-needed reinforcements.

As the Mets aim to bolster their pitching, the call-up of McLean and Sproat could offer some reinforcements in the sports arena of baseball, particularly in the MLB.
