The Stormy Forecast for Germany this Sunday

Meteorological Agency Issues Alerts for Approaching Storms

Ready for some wild weather, Germany? Get your umbrellas and rain boots, because the storms are coming! The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a warning for further thunderstorms across the country on Sunday, starting with the western regions before hitting the central, southern, and eastern areas. Get ready for heavy rain, hail, and gusty winds, and grab your weather-resistant gear!

In the south and east, the storms could pack a punch, with hailstones up to three centimeters in diameter and gusts up to a mind-boggling 100 kilometers per hour. It's gonna be intense, folks! The DWD is extra cautious, reporting potential heavy rain of up to 40 liters per square meter in a short time, or even more than 60 liters per square meter in a few hours for the hard-hit areas.

Meanwhile, in the west and northwest, things will start to cool down a bit. You can expect temperatures to hover between 20 to 24 degrees Celsius, a refreshing change from the heatwave you've been experiencing in the east and southeast where it'll still reach a sizzling 30 to 34 degrees Celsius.

The storm risk isn't done with us yet. Brace yourselves, as things are set to continue into the night from Sunday to Monday in the east and southeast. Those storms will be moving eastward in the second half of the night, and temperatures will plummet to 17 to 8 degrees Celsius. Put on some extra layers, folks!

Thunderstorm Mayhem Caressed Parts of Germany on Saturday

Saturday was a rough day for some areas: the storms arrived early, causing a flurry of activity for emergency services in parts of Germany. In North Rhine-Westphalia, Paderborn was the epicenter, wrangling with flooded basements, roof collapses, and a waterlogged hospital that slowed down elevator operations. Happily, no injuries were reported—at least that's what the Paderborn police's spokesperson stated.

Fire department reports from Paderborn indicate that the roof of a production hall buckled under the water's weight, and the university campus also felt the storm's wrath.

Was a Tornado to Blame in Altenbeken?

Rumors of a tornado touch-down in the municipality of Altenbeken, located in the Paderborn district, have been swirling in the media. But the German Weather Service hasn't confirmed these reports yet and is still conducting an investigation. Stay tuned for updates on this whirlwind story!
