Metallica's possible Vegas residency at The Sphere is a unique move among heavy rock bands, according to Robert Trujillo's opinion.

Metallica, the legendary heavy metal band, is reportedly in advanced talks for a residency at the Las Vegas Sphere, a cutting-edge concert venue. The potential residency, if confirmed, would take place in the fall of 2026, following the conclusion of Metallica's M72 World Tour in mid-2026.

The Las Vegas Sphere, a $2.3 billion venue that opened in 2023, boasts immersive technology like a wraparound 16K LED screen, an advanced 3D audio system called Sphere Immersive Sound by HOLOPLOT, and features designed to heighten live concert experiences with AI-driven production.

Metallica's guitarist, Kirk Hammett, has expressed enthusiasm about the venue's use of modern technology to push concert entertainment boundaries, calling it a great example of how venues are evolving. If Metallica does secure a residency, they would potentially become the first metal band to perform at this state-of-the-art venue.

Lars Ulrich, Metallica's drummer, has addressed the rumors of a potential residency at the Sphere. While nothing is confirmed or green-lit, he revealed that Metallica's managers and production people have inspected the Sphere, and Ulrich believes the atmosphere of the Sphere would suit Metallica's music.

Robert Trujillo, Metallica's bassist, has also expressed interest in a potential residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas. He mentions the potential for visual stimulation with Metallica's music at the Sphere, suggesting that the immersive technology could enhance the band's live performances.

Before the potential Las Vegas residency, Metallica has a tour scheduled in Australia, New Zealand, and Asia starting in November. They also have a European tour scheduled that begins in May, with Gojira, Knocked Loose, Pantera, and Avatar acting as support for some dates.

As of August 2025, official public details and confirmations about the Metallica residency at the Las Vegas Sphere are still pending. Show specifics such as the number of performances, exact dates, and ticket information remain unconfirmed. However, with viral reports suggesting that Metallica is ready to "ink a deal" and host concerts at the Sphere in the autumn of 2026, fans of the band can look forward to potentially witnessing a landmark event in the world of heavy metal.
