Metal enthusiasts turn Wet Infield into a concert venue at Wacken
Wacken Open Air 2022 Kicks Off Amidst "Original Wacken Weather"
The Wacken Open Air (W:O:A), one of the world's largest Heavy Metal festivals, has officially begun in Schleswig-Holstein's Wacken, Germany. Despite the rainy weather, festival founder Holger Hübner welcomed the metalheads with a cheerful "Moin Metalheads."
Thousands of fans are gathered in front of the two main stages, eager to witness the performances. Wind Rose was the first band to take the stage on Thursday afternoon, setting the tone for the weekend.
Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Wacken Open Air 2021 festival was canceled, and thus, no headlining bands performed last year. However, this year's lineup promises an impressive array of performers, including Gojira, Papa Roach, Machine Head, Apocalyptica, and Michael Schenker.
Guns N' Roses, who are this year's headliners, will mark their first Wacken visit on Thursday evening. Their performance will also conclude their Europe and Middle East tour. Holger Hübner and co-founder Thomas Jensen will only be on stage again on Sunday morning.
Saltatio Mortis performed on Wednesday evening before the main festival began, warming up the crowd for the weekend ahead. Holger Hübner promised that the week would still be a "great week," despite the rainy weather, which he referred to as the "original Wacken weather."
The Wacken Open Air 2022 is scheduled to run until August 2nd, promising a weekend filled with heavy metal music, camaraderie, and unforgettable moments.
Despite the "original Wacken weather," attendees can still enjoy other forms of entertainment, such as taking part in sports events or trying sports-betting activities at the festival. Bands like Gojira, Papa Roach, and Guns N' Roses will provide an exceptional music experience for the metalheads still recovering from last year's canceled Wacken Open Air.
