Meta, Mora, and A Triadic Ballet Fiction
In an exciting development for the world of dance, Chicago-based Hedwig Dances is set to present a contemporary reinterpretation of Oskar Schlemmer's iconic "Triadic Ballet" in Leipzig's Schaubühne on August 22nd and 23rd. The production, titled "Gates of the Triad," draws on themes inspired by the original's exploration of geometry, abstraction, and the interaction between human form and costume, reimagined through a modern lens that often includes contemporary dance, technology, and multimedia elements.
The production, titled "Meta | Mor | Phos," is a co-production between Hedwig Dances and the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation. It revolves around themes of change, transformation, and alternative forms of existence, inspired by the life cycle of insects. The performance emphasises the connection to the natural world and coexistence with other beings, as well as the intelligence of the non-human.
The performance will take place in the Schaubühne's Ballsaal and does not require language skills. Tickets for the performance can be purchased at the Schaubühne, online via www.schaubuehne.com, and at all Reservix advance booking points. The ticket prices are 18 euros and 12 euros (reduced).
An insect metamorphosis unfolds on stage, supported by original music composed by Patricia Taxxon and sound design by Richard Woodbury. The historical costumes used as a starting point in the production are brought to life by the dancers and eventually replaced by new forms.
This production marks a significant milestone for Hedwig Dances, as they continue to push the boundaries of dance and reinterpret classic works in innovative ways. The production is supported by USArtists International, the Illinois Arts Council, the Gaylord & Dorothy Donnelley Foundation, the Hyman & Shirley Hill Charitable Foundation, the Meyer J. & Norma L. Ragir Foundation, and the Dolores Kohl Education Fund. Don't miss this unique opportunity to witness the fusion of the old and the new in the world of dance.
