The University of Nebraska's football operations have found a centralized home in the Osborne Legacy Complex, a $165 million facility named after legendary coach Tom Osborne. This 315,000-square-foot hub houses numerous football offices, meeting rooms, training facilities, and dining areas. With ECC, a top 50 system integrator based in Lincoln, NE, on board, this state-of-the-art complex promises an elevated student-athlete experience.

Simplifying Complex Operations:

Before the Osborne Legacy Complex, coaches' meetings and other simple tasks were a hassle, requiring treks between various interconnected complexes. Now, everything is under one accessible roof.

Mark Allen, ECC's account manager, explained, "The Osborne Legacy Complex was built to invest in one of the most comprehensive student-athlete experiences in the country and bring the Nebraska football program operations under one single, accessible facility."

Bringing the Complex to Life:

If Pro AV was a buffet, the Osborne Legacy Complex would devour it all. The facility showcases a wide variety of high-tech audio, stunning video displays, and digital signage systems. However, ECC faced a significant challenge: coordinating system implementation with various construction teams' schedules.

Construction started in January 2021, and ECC received the project order for the AV systems in July 2022. Installations began later that fall, ensuring everything was ready for the upcoming college football season.

High-End AV for Big Red:

Across the complex, you'll find a smorgasbord of Pro AV delights, from top-notch audio, amazing video displays, and digital signage systems showcasing Husker football content. Samsung displays are ubiquitous, from the massive 85-inch 4K display in the football equipment rooms to the 98-inch commercial 4K display in the offense and defense staff conference rooms.

Video walls posed a challenge due to product availability and timeline constraints, requiring ECC to strategically switch to different manufacturers that still met the desired high-end quality. Sound systems also proved tricky, as there's no unified system throughout the complex. Audio systems were designed and selected by Salas O'Brien and feature loudspeakers from Fulcrum Acoustics, subwoofers from JBL, a Holosonics audio spotlight system, and various Shure products.

Systems Unified but Standalone:

The audiovisual systems in the complex are primarily standalone, interconnected only in specific scenarios. Each space boasts QSC touchscreen displays, and Mersive's Solstice wireless sharing allows for content sharing via personal devices. Screens control AV settings and gear, like Panasonic PTZ cameras.

Immersive Experiences:

Take the Brook Berringer Players' Lounge for instance, where a Samsung 2x4 video wall and JBL speakers cater to players' entertainment needs. In the theater, a single-display video wall and Fulcrum Acoustic loudspeakers are powered by a Dolby Atmos and DTS:X home theater processor and QSC power amplifiers.

Christie, Barco, and Crestron Light Up the Complex:

Both Christie and Barco projectors are used in various spaces, achieving immersive experiences. The Walkthrough Room, for example, uses five 25,500-lumen Barco laser video projectors to blend together across a 99.6-foot-long projection wall, creating an interactive space for coaches and players to walk through game plans in real-scale simulations.

Crestron NVX AV-over-IP technology serves as the Pro AV control system infrastructure behind the complex's systems, supporting easy scalability for future growth. Multiple Extron switchers are used behind the scenes to orchestrate the AV experience.

Digital Signage: The Heart of the Experience:

Digital signage plays a crucial role in the overall experience of the Osborne Legacy Complex. In spaces like the Hall of Champions, interactive displays tell compelling stories about Huskers football. The Ndamukong Suh Strength and Conditioning Center uses digital signage to highlight weekly workout leaders and provide nutritional information.

A Four Winds Interactive CMS is used for interactive and demanding content, while Triple Play serves as the CMS and IPTV system for informational content dispersal. The digital signage systems are managed by an in-house professional team, with additional management from Husker Vision, Nebraska's in-house technology team for all athletics.

As Allen concluded, "ECC always designs and engineers our solutions with future-growth in mind, and the AV systems at the UNL Osborne Legacy Complex are no different." With room for expansion and scalability, this complex remains at the forefront of stadium technology trends.
