Merz's migration plan does not include Tusk.
In his inaugural trip as Chancellor, Merz jets off to Paris, followed by Warsaw. But Tusk, the Polish Prime Minister, doesn't extend a warm reception. Poland takes issue with the migration direction chosen by the black-red coalition.
Donald Tusk lashed out at Merz's proposed migration policy. "Germany welcomes whoever it desires. Poland only accepts who we deem fit," Tusk thundered during Merz's visit to Warsaw. It's crucial not to give an inkling that any entity, especially Germany, is pushing specific migrant groups to Poland.
Political Ripples
Tusk alludes to the "Dublin center" near the Poland border, set to aid the return of asylum seekers to other EU countries. Migrant relocations, particularly to Poland, will be dealt with at this center.
Tusk also voiced his disapproval of Merz's border control tightening scheme. "If border checks occur at the Polish border, we'll institute them too. It's just plain daft in the long haul," Tusk declared.
Guardians of External Borders
Tusk stressed that Poland bears a significant burden safeguarding the EU's external border. The Warsaw government accuses Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko's regime of intentionally forcing migrants from crisis regions towards the EU's eastern border. Tusk expects the new German government to collaborate in maintaining external borders.
Merz promised cooperation from Poland in defending the EU's external border. "It's our duty to bolster these European external borders with German backing and assistance more effectively than we have managed previously," asserted Merz, an CDU politician. He's optimistic that viable solutions can be forged in this domain. Simultaneously, Merz advocated for a united European approach to curtail illegal migration.
Merz defended the reinforced controls at Germany's frontiers, while also upholding the Schengen principles, which promote open borders within the EU. light border trade is crucial for employments and prosperity, and thus the unrestricted movement of persons in the EU serves the common interest.
