Jochen Florstedt, a double and artist agent from Mülheim, has been on the hunt for a Friedrich Merz look-alike for weeks, but to no avail. Why is it so hard to find a spitting image of the German politician?
"Merz's unique facial structure and characteristic scowl make for a challenging search," Florstedt admits, "He exhibits an upside-down pear-shaped head: extremely narrow chin, broad skull, and that distinctly sour expression. I believe there are people visually similar to him out there, but I haven't found them yet."

Florstedt shares that he has noticed a trend with top political figures like Scholz - they are often hesitant to embrace their doppelgängers. "Politicians don't want to be discovered, especially if it means facing insults or heckling like they do in the public eye," he explains, "But fear not, my artists always perform in a controlled environment or at corporate events, so there's no need to worry about unwanted attention."
The Merkel Look-alike Leaves a Lasting Legacy
Ursula Wanecki from the Sauerland, who has been impersonating Angela Merkel for many years, remains a staple in Florstedt's look-alike database. Known for her appearances on ZDF's "heute-show" and advertising spots, Wanecki's success can be attributed to Merkel's original charisma. "The appeal of the original is a crucial factor in the demand for look-alikes," affirms Frank Schäfer, CEO of the double agency Doubles & More in the Rhineland.
Despite not having a Friedrich Merz in their portfolio, Schäfer expresses optimism, "He could potentially be very, very important."
Why Finding a German Politician Look-alike is a Tough Sell
"German politicians rarely booked" states Jürgen Tebbe, owner of the look-alike agency New Lookalikes in Bonn, "There's little glamour associated with them." In support of this statement, Tebbe adds, "Our Olaf Scholz was booked only twice for TV shoots in his entire tenure."
