Men's hockey advances to the semifinals following a victory against Kanters
The Euro Championship 2025 is heating up as we approach the semi-finals, with four teams poised to battle it out for a spot in the final. The semi-finals will take place on Thursday, with the German-Spain game at 20:00 CET and the French-Netherlands game at 17:00 CET, both broadcasted by Magenta TV.
The German men's hockey team has been in impressive form, finishing as group leaders and reinforcing their title ambitions. They started their semi-final journey strongly against Poland, scoring four goals in the first quarter, with Raphael Hartkopf scoring four goals, including three in the first half. Mats Grambusch opened the scoring for Germany, and Thies Prinz scored twice, with one of the goals being set up by Mats Grambusch. Malte Hellwig and Justus Weigand also found the back of the net for Germany, who defeated Poland 10:0 in their last group game.
Spain qualified for the semi-finals by defeating Belgium. The Netherlands, the defending champions and Olympic winners, will face the French men's hockey team in the semi-finals on Thursday. The French team achieved a historic victory with a 3:2 win against England, securing their place in the semi-finals for the first time in 55 years. Gonzalo Peillat scored two goals against Poland on his 33rd birthday, but it was not enough to prevent Poland from finishing the tournament without any points, finishing in last place.
In the women's tournament, England, Italy, Germany, and Spain have reached the semi-finals. The Netherlands and France were eliminated before the semi-finals, with France losing to Germany in the quarter-finals on penalties (5-6), and the Netherlands being eliminated earlier in the group stage. The semi-finals saw England defeat Italy 2-1 after extra time, and Spain defeated Germany 1-0 after extra time. The final was held on July 27, 2025, where England and Spain drew 1-1 after extra time, and England won 3-1 on penalties.
Coach Henning warned his team not to underestimate the game against Poland, stating that giving less than 70% effort would make the game difficult. The Euro Championship 2025, hosted in Switzerland, has been a thrilling tournament so far, and the semi-finals promise to be just as exciting. Tune in to Magenta TV on Thursday to catch all the action!
