Mendota's Downtown Police Chief Position Transfers to Martin
Hear ye, hear ye! Mendota's got a new top cop on the beat, and it's none other than the hometown hero, Jason Martin!
Sworn in during the city council meeting on a Monday evening, the ceremony was performed by his very own brother, Circuit Judge Todd Martin. Before making his way to Mendota, Martin was working part-time for the city, having previously served as the undersheriff for the La Salle County Sheriff's Office.
In the wake of the new appointment, Tyler Kent, Mendota's interim chief, is stepping up as deputy chief of police. Kent took on the temporary role after Greg Kellen retired last summer.
Martin, a proud alumnus of Mendota High School, class of '93, and Illinois Valley Community College, has most of his law enforcement experience under his belt with the La Salle County Sheriff's Office.
