Heads Together in Tallinn: Kaja Kallas and Volodymyr Zelensky Discuss Ukraine's Fight Against Aggression
Get ready to tune in as Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky hold a press conference at the Stenbock House in Tallinn! This meeting comes as part of Zelensky's tour of the Baltic states, seeking deeper ties and unwavering support in the face of Russia's relentless aggression.
Zelensky touched down in Tallinn late on January 10, making his way here from the Lithuanian capital Vilnius. In typical Twitter fashion (back when it was known as X), he tweeted, "Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania – my reliable friends and principled partners. I'm in Vilnius now, heading to Tallinn and Riga. Our discussions will focus on security, EU and NATO integration, cooperation on electronic warfare and drones, and coordinating European assistance. And a special thank you for the unwavering support you've shown Ukraine since 2014, especially during these tested times."
Zelensky's visit comes with a packed itinerary. In addition to meeting with Kaja Kallas, he'll sit down with Estonian President Alar Karis, Speaker of the Parliament Lauri Hussar, and address the Estonian parliament. Kaja Kallas extended a warm welcome to Zelensky, noting, "It's an honor not only for me but for all Estonians to welcome the Ukrainian president to Tallinn. Estonia believes in Ukraine's victory. We must continue to support Ukraine as long as it's needed and as much as is necessary for Ukraine's victory. These are critical times; our focus must remain steadfast."
Estonia's Steadfast Support for Ukraine
Since 2014, Estonia has stood by Ukraine, providing political, economic, and military support, as well as essential humanitarian aid. Estonia's financial commitment to Ukraine amounts to a staggering €1.2 billion, with €316 million allocated for civilian aid and €900 million for military aid.
As the sixth president of Ukraine since 2019, Volodymyr Zelensky, a former comedian and actor, has come a long way. Born to a Ukrainian-Jewish family in the Dnipropetrovsk region of central Ukraine, Zelensky is fluent in Russian. This marks Zelensky's second visit to Estonia, having previously dropped by in 2019.
Stay tuned for more updates as these powerhouse leaders discuss the future of Ukraine during a global crisis and how the EU and NATO can unite in support.
