Let's get down to it!

Captain Timo Kastening has sounded the alarm for MT Melsungen as they prepare to take on VfL Gummersbach in the European League quarter-finals, fresh off a heavy 32:42 Handball-Bundesliga loss to HSV Hamburg.

"We can't keep performances like that up," said Kastening, expressing dissatisfaction with their recent form. "We're shifting focus and ready to show a whole new side against Gummersbach."

Basking in the Glow of an Upper Echelon Clash

The Bundesliga's third-ranked squad aspires to secure a commanding position in the first leg on Tuesday (18:45 CEST/Dyn). A 29:24 league win over Gummersbach in December offers a glimmer of hope for the home leg next week. But Kastening insists their rivals, boasting national team star Julian Köster, won't be a pushover. "With their fans egging them on, Gummersbach can rise to the occasion against any team," the 29-year-old admits.

Treading a Familiar Path

Coach Roberto Garcia Parrondo's team is no stranger to Bundesliga confrontations in the competition at hand. "I'd rather face an international opponent on the European stage," shares Kastening. In the main round, Melsungen fell short against THW Kiel, forgoing a group win and direct quarter-final qualification following a draw and a loss.

  1. Captain Timo Kastening of MT Melsingen expressed his concerns about their recent Handball-Bundesliga performances, stating they need to improve ahead of the European League quarter-finals against VfL Gummersbach.
  2. Kastening, despite a 29:24 league win over Gummersbach in December, acknowledged that the upcoming clash won't be easy, as national team star Julian Köster and the supportive home crowd could push Gummersbach to excel.
  3. Melsungen, who have previously faced Bundesliga opponents on the European stage, although unsuccessfully in the main round against THW Kiel, according to Kastening, prefer international competition over other oppositions.
