Meierhöfli School breaks ground on major expansion for 2028 completion
Work has begun on expanding Meierhöfli School in Emmen, with construction officially starting on 9 March 2026. The project aims to meet the town's increasing demand for classroom space, adding new facilities and upgrading existing ones. Completion is expected by summer 2028.
The expansion will include a modern double gymnasium and six new primary school classrooms. Once finished, the current single gymnasium will be converted into a cultural hall for both school and community events.
During construction, parts of Fichtenstrasse will lose parking spaces, though around 20 new public spots will be added at the rear of the campus. The site itself will be fully fenced off, with clear signage, barriers, and designated pedestrian routes to ensure safety. Access for construction vehicles will be limited to Seetalstrasse, Meierhöflistrasse, and Fichtenstrasse in the first phase.
School officials have asked parents to avoid using 'parent taxis' to drop off or pick up children. This measure aims to reduce traffic congestion around the site while work is underway.
The expanded Meierhöfli School will provide more space for students and improved facilities for the community. With the project set to finish by 2028, the school will gain a new gymnasium, additional classrooms, and a repurposed cultural hall. Temporary parking changes and traffic adjustments will remain in place until construction is complete.
