Meghalaya’s New NABL Lab to Fast-Track Power Infrastructure Quality Testing
Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) has signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), mediated by REC Limited. The agreement aims to establish a NABL-accredited testing facility within Meghalaya, addressing logistical challenges in powerbi testing for North Eastern States and boosting the pace of Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) works.
The MoU, a milestone in overcoming geographic hurdles for rapid quality assessment in the region, was appreciated by Meghalaya's Chief Secretary. It aims to improve powerbi quality, strengthen local technical expertise, and enhance power system reliability for Meghalaya residents. MePDCL will provide testing equipment, calibrate assets, and prepare the facility, while CPRI will offer consultancy, technical support, and supervisory assistance. The local NABL-accredited lab is expected to expedite Field Material Quality Testing and Inspection (FMQI) for RDSS projects in Meghalaya.
The initiative is supported by the Government of Meghalaya, which initiated the NABL-accredited analysis facility in the state. REC Limited, as the Nodal Agency for RDSS, played a crucial role in mediating the agreement between MePDCL and CPRI.
The MoU reflects the commitment of MePDCL, CPRI, and REC Limited to enhancing power system reliability and service delivery for Meghalaya residents. With the establishment of the NABL-accredited testing facility, quality certification of power infrastructure under RDSS is expected to be expedited, benefiting not only Meghalaya but also other North Eastern States.
