Giant Container Ship Arrives in Hamburg - Mega container ship OOCL Portugal docks in Hamburg after halting traffic

One of the world’s largest container ships, the OOCL Portugal, has arrived at the Port of Hamburg. Measuring 400 metres long and 60 metres wide, the vessel briefly paused traffic on the waterway to dock safely. The ship was built in 2024 and boasts a cargo capacity of nearly 225,000 tons. Its deep draft of up to 16.5 metres required careful navigation as it entered the port. To ensure a smooth arrival, authorities temporarily halted through traffic on the waterway for about an hour. After its stop in Hamburg, the OOCL Portugal will continue its westbound voyage. The next scheduled port is Le Havre, France, as part of the Ocean Alliance’s Asia-North Europe loop (1A/1B). From there, it will proceed to Rotterdam before heading to Antwerp. The vessel’s visit highlights Hamburg’s role as a key hub for massive container ships. Real-time tracking data from MarineTraffic and VesselFinder confirmed its route as of January 25, 2026. The OOCL Portugal remains on schedule for its ongoing journey.
