Meerbusch's Local Elections 2025: Here's the Town's Voting Results

In the recent local election held in Meerbusch on September 14, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) emerged as the clear winner, securing a significant increase in seats. Incumbent Christian Bommers was re-elected as Mayor with approximately 67% of the votes.

The CDU received 48.21% of the votes, an increase of 8.12 percentage points compared to the 2020 election. This translates to 24 seats for the CDU, up from the previous 16.

The Social Democratic Party (SPD) also saw a notable presence, with 13.24% of the votes, equivalent to 7 seats. This is a decrease of 1.95% compared to the 2020 election.

The Greens will have 8 seats with 16.75% of the votes, a decrease of 6.89%. The Left, UWG/Free Voters, FDP, AfD, Green-alternative Meerbusch, and The Party also secured seats, each with varying percentages of the votes.

The voter turnout for the Integration Council election was 17.31%, slightly higher than the 12,364 eligible voters with foreign roots who were called upon to cast their votes. The voter turnout for the overall election was 60.29%, slightly higher than in 2020 (58.17%).

Individual candidates Borislav Tomov and Agnès Krah received 6.24% and 13.21% of the votes in the Integration Council election, respectively, each securing one seat. Thomas Gabernig and Sarah Winter of the Greens, Nicole Niederdellmann-Siemes of the SPD, Heinz Dieter Schmoll (UWG/Free Voters), and Andreas Wagner (The Party) also received notable percentages of the votes.

Notably, a runoff election for the position of district administrator will take place on Sunday, September 28, between Katharina Reinhold (CDU) and Hakan Temel (SPD). A personal ID card will be sufficient for voting. The candidate running against Katharina Reinhold in the 2025 Meerbusch District Council runoff election is not publicly specified at this time.

The new Meerbusch city council will grow to 50 seats from the current 48, based on preliminary results. A detailed analysis of the election results and their implications will follow in the coming days.
