The heartbreaking episode unfolded on February 26 in their New Mexico abode where the couple was found deceased, setting the Hollywood community abuzz.

According to a report by "USA Today," citing Brian Moya, the fire chief of Santa Fe, one of the dogs exhibited peculiar behavior that ultimately led first responders to Hackman's resting place.

A Canine Navigator

Following the discovery of Betsy Arakawa's feeble breathing on a routine maintenance call, which subsequently led to a 911 call, Santa Fe firefighters and deputy sheriffs arrived at the scene. Upon examining Arakawa and searching the house, they encountered a peculiar situation. One of the couple's dogs Displayed a persistent interest in the responders, barking and running in a direction that appeared to be purposeful.

It wasn't until the dog's consistent behavior was recognized that they grasp the animal was attempting to guide them. "They understood the dog was trying to convey: 'Follow me! Follow me!'" Moya elucidated.

The dog's persistence led them to a storage room next to the kitchen, where Hackman's body was discovered. His cane and sunglasses were reportedly within arm's reach. The two other dogs, Bear and Nikita, were Briskly taken away and put up at a local animal shelter.

A Grueling Timeline of Loss

During a press conference with CNN, the medical examiner disclosed that Arakawa had probably perished before Hackman. She had been last seen alive in public on February 11, and unopened emails from that date were also uncovered. Hackman is presumed to have breathed his last on February 18, as his pacemaker recorded his heartbeat on that day.
