October Brought Chilly Nights and Heavy Rain to MV - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's October: Extreme Weather Mix of Sun, Cold, and Rain
October in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania brought a mix of weather extremes. The region basked in the second-highest number of sunshine hours in Germany, but also experienced the coldest temperatures and above-average rainfall.
The month started with a record-breaking low temperature. On October 19th, Barth in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern shivered at -4.7°C, the lowest recorded in Germany that month. Despite the chilly start, the region enjoyed 96 hours of sunshine, just 13 hours shy of the long-term average of 109 hours.
However, October was notably wetter than usual. Rain fell on over 20 days, with rainfall being 60 percent higher than the long-term average. This made for a soggy month, but not without its sunny spells.
Overall, October in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was warmer than usual, with an average temperature of 10.3°C, a full degree above the historical average of 9.3°C.
