More Cases of Child Welfare Endangerment in MV - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Tightens Child Protection Laws Amid Rising Endangerment Cases
In 2024, youth welfare offices in the state received 5,502 reports of suspected child endangerment. Investigations confirmed 1,718 cases—an increase of 2.7% compared to 2023. Of these, 1,120 children experienced acute endangerment, suffering serious physical, mental, or emotional harm.
The proposed Child Protection Act follows a year of rising concerns over child welfare in the region. If approved, the law will strengthen prevention efforts and provide more support for vulnerable families. The state government expects the changes to improve early intervention and long-term protection for children.
