MCU's Recent News Leaves Fans Disappointed Over Delay in Mahershala Ali Assuming the Role of Blade

In an exciting turn of events, Todd Williams has been cast to voice the iconic character, Blade Knight, in the upcoming Marvel Zombies animated series on Disney+. This Blade is a variant character within an alternate timeline introduced in the What If...? series.

The Marvel Zombies series is an animated miniseries set in an alternate reality, first shown in the What If...? episode “What If... Zombies?!” and features characters as variants or in different roles. Todd Williams, known for his voice work in Invincible as Titan, will be the voice behind Blade (Eric Brooks), who in this series has adopted the mantle of Moon Knight.

Mahershala Ali, who is portraying the live-action Blade in the MCU, will not be voicing the character in this animated variant series. The MCU often uses different actors for voice roles in alternate timeline animated projects.

Marvel Zombies is the first MCU show to receive a mature rating, further distinguishing it from Ali’s version. The series consists of four episodes and is set to stream on Disney+ in October.

Meanwhile, Wesley Snipes will reprise his role as Blade in the upcoming Deadpool and Wolverine, although the release date for the film has not been announced.

There has been some curiosity about the recasting of a live-action MCU actor for an animated project. However, it's important to note that this recasting does not necessarily mean Mahershala Ali has been replaced in the broader MCU, as the series portrays a variant version of Blade rather than the core MCU character.

David Goyer, the original Blade screenwriter, has expressed interest in helping script Blade's official MCU debut, but Marvel has not responded. Goyer has also expressed some confusion about Wesley Snipes reprising the role of Blade in Deadpool and Wolverine.

Todd Williams will also voice Moon Knight and MK in the same series. The debut of the Marvel Zombies series on Disney+ is scheduled for September 24, 2025.

In a separate development, Mahershala Ali replaced the actor who voiced Titan in Season 2 of Invincible, while the specific actor who voiced the character in Season 1 has not been specified.

It's worth mentioning that the character Blade Knight is a What If...? interpretation that combines Eric Brooks with Moon Knight Marc Spector. The animated version of Blade is not related to Mahershala Ali's live-action MCU character.

The news of Todd Williams voicing Blade Knight in Marvel Zombies adds another layer of excitement to the ever-evolving Marvel Cinematic Universe. Stay tuned for more updates!
