MCU Sequel's Anticipated Events: 11 Speculations Regarding Avengers: Doomsday
In the upcoming Avengers films, directed by the Russo brothers, fans can expect a new villain to challenge Earth's Mightiest Heroes - Doctor Doom, played by none other than Robert Downey Jr. However, this Doctor Doom is not your typical villain. He hails from an alternate reality (Earth-828) where he is a corrupted version of Tony Stark.
The film will explore Doom as a "dark mirror" of Tony Stark, presenting a version who used Stark’s genius for conquest instead of heroism. This positions Doom with deep personal and technological ties to the MCU’s original Iron Man legacy.
Doom’s appearance stems from the MCU’s expanding multiverse, implicating alternate realities and variants, which may be central to the storyline, especially as it leads toward Avengers: Secret Wars, a known multiversal saga.
Doom’s tech in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be a different version of the Iron Man armor, blending science and sorcery. This Doom may command versions of Stark’s own robotic armies, such as Iron Legion or Doombots, setting up a formidable threat that combines science and sorcery.
Theories suggest Doom may have acquired scars and powers linked to past Infinity Saga events, possibly showing how he defeated or survived encounters with characters like Thanos, establishing his threat level.
With the Avengers set to unite with the Fantastic Four, X-Men, and others, the plot may hinge on assembling a wider coalition to counter this multiversal, high-tech villain. The MCU could even bring in another variant of Thanos to help defeat Doctor Doom.
Robert Downey Jr.’s casting raises questions about why Doom’s face might never be fully revealed, hinting at mysterious or symbolic reasons, and whether there will be a deeper narrative connection or simply the use of Downey’s star power without an explicit Stark link.
The MCU will also adapt a storyline involving Doctor Doom, Scarlet Witch, and the Young Avengers called "The Children's Crusade." With Marvel Studios building up the Young Avengers with heroes like Kamala Khan and Kate Bishop, who may recruit characters like America Chavez, Wiccan, Speed, Stature, and White Vision, this could be an exciting addition to the franchise.
Doom has the potential to destroy the Multiverse, as seen in the Secret Wars comic storyline. This sets the stage for a cosmic and multidimensional climax ahead of Secret Wars. The next Avengers film will pivot heavily on the multiverse concept, Tony Stark’s legacy twisted into Doctor Doom’s identity, and a blend of science and sorcery that challenges the heroes on unprecedented levels.
