McIlroy Experiences Remarkable Moment as Club Caught After a Surprising Boomerang Back During US Open

Chilling at Oakmont: Rory McIlroy's Rocky US Open Journey

Dubai—It was a rough ride for Rory McIlroy at the US Open. Fresh from bagging the Masters and completing the career Grand Slam in April, Rory looked pale at Oakmont. Despite ending the final day with athree-under 67, the tournament left a sour taste for the World No 2.

But it was his on-course antics that stayed in the headlines. On Saturday, he smashed a marker on the 17th tee box, and was seen tossing his clubs around. The following day, after an abysmal iron shot, McIlroy felt like chucking his club, but he held back, only to see it bounce back at him. Luckily, he managed to catch it, much to the amusement of the two course stewards.

The Club Incident and Its Aftermath

After his club boomeranged back, McIlroy made a smirking impression and the stewards could barely suppress their laughter. One of the stewards even captured the moment in a photograph, which soon went viral.

Media Dissatisfaction—A Long-standing Issue

Yet, it was McIlroy's decision to skip media interviews following his opening two rounds that created a buzz. Frustrated with the media, Rory claimed he had earned the right to pick and choose when he wanted to face the media. "[The incident with the driver] was a part of it," he said. "But [the media frustration] started during the Masters. I skipped interviews then too, not just here at Oakmont."

He added, "I feel I've earned the right to do whatever I want to do. I'm not daring them [the PGA Tour], but I'm merely pointing out the fact that we [professional athletes] have the ability to do it."

While McIlroy struggled to find his form at Oakmont, it was his bold move to stand up to the media that earned him some admiration from his fans.
