McDowell Claims Volvo World Match Play Championship Title

The final of the 2013 Volvo World Match Play Championship is set to take place this afternoon, with Graeme McDowell and Nicolas Colsaerts set to face off for the coveted trophy.

McDowell secured his spot in the final by defeating Branden Grace 3&2 in the semi-finals. The Northern Irishman started the match with a birdie at the first hole and continued his strong performance, birdying the sixth hole to increase his lead to four. A birdie from 18 feet on the third hole of the semi-finals further solidified his advantage.

Despite Grace birdying the 11th hole to reduce the deficit to three, McDowell responded by holing from 20ft on the fifth hole to move three up against Grace. McDowell then birdied four out of the next five holes to secure his victory and a spot in the final for the second year in a row.

Meanwhile, Thongchai Jaidee advanced to the final after beating Thomas Aiken with the same scoreline as McDowell. Jaidee, a former Thai paratrooper, started strongly, going four up after seven holes against Aiken. However, Aiken fought back, making three birdies in the next four holes to claw back one hole. Jaidee restored his three-hole cushion with a birdie on the 13th hole, a crucial moment in the match that ultimately proved decisive.

As the final approaches, McDowell is favored to win the tournament. The Northern Irishman has had a strong season so far, and his performance in the semi-finals was impressive. However, Jaidee should not be underestimated. The Thai golfer has shown great resilience in his match against Aiken and will be determined to claim victory in the final.

The Volvo World Match Play Championship is being played at Thracian Cliffs, a stunning golf course located on the Black Sea coast in Bulgaria. The course offers breathtaking views of the sea and cliffs, making it a fitting venue for such a prestigious tournament.

As the final approaches, both players will be preparing meticulously, honing their skills and strategies to secure victory. The match promises to be a thrilling contest, with both players eager to claim the title of Volvo World Match Play Champion. Stay tuned for updates on the final and the exciting conclusion to this year's tournament.
