In the recent second Test against India at Edgbaston, England suffered a significant 336-run loss. The defeat was largely attributed to England's inability to finish off India's lower-order batsmen during the first innings, a sentiment shared by captain Ben Stokes.

India amassed a formidable 587 runs in their first innings, setting the tone for the match. Stokes believed that they could have bowled India out for under 350 in the first innings, but England's bowling performance fell short.

Brendon McCullum, head coach of England's cricket team, expressed regret over the decision to bowl first. He admitted that the team may have missed an opportunity with the toss decision, as they underestimated how the pitch would behave during the match.

England finished the game on the last day, bowled out for 271, facing a target of 608 runs. The match was largely out of England's control after India established their high first-innings score.

Looking ahead, the anticipation builds for England's next challenge as they aim to bounce back. The England squad for the third Test at Lord's includes Ben Stokes (captain), Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jamie Smith (wicketkeeper), Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, Shoaib Bashir, Gus Atkinson, Jofra Archer, Sam Cook, and Jamie Overton.

Jofra Archer may return to Test cricket after four years, along with potential inclusions of Sam Cook and Jamie Overton. The squad's addition of seamer Gus Atkinson, who missed the previous matches due to injury, adds depth to England's bowling attack.

As the series continues, the pivotal decisions that impact match outcomes for England will be under the spotlight. England will be determined to turn the tables in the upcoming third Test at Lord's and secure a victory against India.
