The curtains are dropping on Martin Geissler's almost two-decade tenure as the Business Manager of Syntainics MBC, the crowned champions of the German Basketball Cup. Step aside, Geissler – the dance floor is clear for new challenges. The 40-year-old has conveyed his resignation, as announced by the club's supervisory board, effective no later than December 31st. His departure marks the conclusion of an exceptional era that began back in 2002.
As a family man who's been at the helm since 2008, Geissler has shouldered the responsibility of sports management, marketing, and league/association work, overseeing both the hiring of coaches and players, and playing a crucial role in securing victory in championships, promotions, and various other significant accomplishments. His involvement with the club dates back further than most feathers in his cap – commencing in 2002 with the club's press work, and taking on the role of team manager in 2004.
Under Geissler's dynamic leadership, the MBC claimed triumphs in the ProA championships and Bundesliga promotions in 2009, 2012, and 2017. His remarkable reign also saw a commendable third-place finish in the women's Bundesliga Toyota DBBL. But it was last season that truly highlighted his prowess, as the club hosted the BBL Pokal Final4, the most prestigious national basketball extravaganza, and bagged the first national title. To top it all off, the team even reached the playoffs for the German championship for the first time in 24 long years.
