Mayors Bet Cheesecake vs. Taquitos on Bears vs. Rams Playoff Showdown
A friendly food-themed wager has been set between Chicago and Los Angeles ahead of the NFC Divisional Round playoff game. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass placed a bet involving local specialities—cheesecake and taquitos—depending on which team wins.
The rivalry adds a lighthearted twist to the upcoming match between the Bears and the Rams.
Mayor Johnson challenged Mayor Bass to the wager, proposing a super-sized Bear Down-themed cheesecake from Eli’s Cheesecake if the Bears triumph. The Chicago bakery has a history with the team, having been part of Super Bowl celebrations in 1986 when Mayor Harold Washington took it to New Orleans for Super Bowl XX.
Mayor Bass accepted the challenge but backed the Rams, promising to send taquitos from Cielito Lito if Los Angeles wins. Both mayors expressed confidence in their respective teams, with Johnson praising Chicago’s food scene as 'second-to-none' and Bass looking forward to another Rams victory.
The outcome of the game will decide which city’s treat crosses state lines—either a Chicago cheesecake or Los Angeles taquitos.
The wager reflects the playful rivalry between the two cities. If the Bears win, Mayor Bass will receive a themed cheesecake, while a Rams victory means taquitos for Mayor Johnson. The result will also highlight which team advances in the playoffs.
