Mayor Race 2025: Top Contenders Discuss Their Vision for City Leadership

On August 27th, the "Together for Democracy and Tolerance in Neukirchen-Vluyn" initiative is hosting a panel discussion at the Awo Meeting Center Marie-Juchacz-Haus, Max-von-Schenkendorf-Straße 9, Neukirchen-Vluyn. The event starts at 7 PM and is free of charge, with doors opening at 6:30 PM.

The panel discussion will be moderated by Dieter Zisenis and will feature four mayoral candidates: Diane Vormann (Left), Dennis Schönke (Independent), Richard Stanczyk (SPD), and an unnamed candidate. Unfortunately, Dirk Schauenberg (Independent), the CDU candidate, cannot attend due to scheduling conflicts.

The candidates will address the increasing polarization in Neukirchen-Vluyn and discuss ways to make democratic processes more visible and tangible. In the first round of discussion, candidates will share their views on the causes of increasing populist trends in Neukirchen-Vluyn and other municipalities.

During the second round of discussion, candidates will share their ideas and plans for increasing citizen involvement in shaping Neukirchen-Vluyn. Based on their positions, Diane Vormann (Left) is likely to emphasize enhancing social programs, promoting dialogue across social groups, and empowering disadvantaged populations to have a stronger voice in decision-making. Dennis Schönke (Independent) is expected to support initiatives for more direct citizen participation such as referendums, citizen councils, or digital platforms to increase transparency and bridge the gap between government and citizens. Richard Stanczyk (SPD) is likely to propose strengthening social welfare policies while fostering open communication channels between city officials and residents, promoting participatory budgeting and community forums to involve citizens in shaping local policies.

The initiative wants to know if the candidates see any deficits in the democratic system that might be contributing to these developments. It's an opportunity for the citizens of Neukirchen-Vluyn to gain insights into the candidates' perspectives and plans for the future of their city. Don't miss this chance to engage in an open dialogue about the future of Neukirchen-Vluyn.
