Liverpool Car Incident: Critically Ill Victims Remain Hospitalized

Following a car accident in Liverpool on Monday evening, several individuals remain in critical condition, according to Mayor Steve Rotheram. In an interview with BBC, he expressed hope for the recovery of the four people who are "extremely ill" in the hospital.

The incident occurred during celebrations of FC Liverpool's championship, resulting in 27 individuals being admitted to hospitals, in addition to 20 treated for minor injuries at the scene. The authorities reported two serious injuries, including a child. Mayor Rotheram noted that he does not have a definitive number of injured individuals but is in continuous contact with the police and emergency services.

Unlike a previous incident in Southport, investigators quickly released details of the arrested suspect. The 53-year-old man, a resident of West Derby, has since been charged with grievous bodily harm. He was initially suspected of dangerous driving and drug-related offenses. While the police have not confirmed terrorism as the motive, they have not ruled out the possibility.

In response to concerns about the police's decision to release information, Mayor Rotheram praised the Merseyside Police's efforts to maintain order and share updates promptly. He emphasized the importance of accuracy in disclosing facts as soon as possible.

Note: As of this report, 79 people are reported to be injured, with 11 patients still hospitalized in stable condition. A survivor, Jack Trotter, recounted his experience of being hit by the car and pleading with the driver to stop before fans and paramedics assisted him to safety.

The community continues to grapple with the impact of the incident, as investigators work to understand the full circumstances surrounding the accident.
