Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani kicked off his "Five Boroughs Against Trump" tour on Monday, focusing on President Donald Trump's national agenda as a centerpoint of the mayoral race.

Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist, has focused his platform on progressive local policies rather than engaging directly with Trump's national agenda. His key priorities include free city buses, a rent freeze for rent-stabilized housing, public safety reform, universal child care, construction of 200,000 affordable housing units, a $30 minimum wage by 2030, and tax increases on corporations and high earners.

The tour's first stop in Manhattan was hosted by Local 1199 of the Service Employees International Union, where Mamdani was joined by Rep. Jerry Nadler and Councilmember Carmen De La Rosa. The event marked the beginning of Mamdani's tour, which aims to rally support for his progressive platform across New York City.

Mamdani has been vocal about his opposition to Trump's national agenda, accusing his three main opponents, including Mayor Eric Adams, of supporting Trump. However, specific direct references to Trump's agenda are limited in the available information. Mamdani's platform is aligned with leftist and progressive causes that contrast with Trump's conservative national policies, but he critiques establishment and business leaders more than Trump specifically.

Andrew Cuomo, Mamdani's chief rival, has been less progressive and likely more aligned with traditional Democratic stances, but there is no direct mention of Cuomo’s stance toward Trump’s agenda in these sources. Cuomo has stepped up attacks on Mamdani recently, accusing him of being out-of-touch with New Yorkers and launching a new social media campaign.

Incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, running as an independent in the general election, and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa have not been detailed in regard to their views on Trump’s national agenda in the available search results.

Trump has attacked Mamdani, calling him a "communist lunatic" and threatening to arrest him, but Mamdani cannot be legally deported and is a democratic socialist, not a communist. Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa urged President Trump to stay out of the mayoral race, stating an endorsement would only help Mamdani.

Mamdani has a significant lead over Cuomo and other opponents, according to recent polling. He has received endorsements from Ruth Messinger, Keith Powers, and Harvey Epstein during the tour's first stop in Manhattan. Ruth Messinger endorsed Mamdani, stating he would help protect New York City from Trump while focusing on affordability for all New Yorkers.

Nadler, the dean of New York's congressional delegation, evaded questions about the silence of Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, stating he believes Mamdani will be a "very good mayor." Nadler compared Trump and Cuomo, stating they both threatened New York City.

The added support from local politicians, such as Rep. Jerry Nadler, bolsters Mamdani's campaign, particularly amid lasting scrutiny of his criticism of Israel. As the mayoral race heats up, Mamdani's focus on Trump's national agenda and his progressive platform continue to set him apart from his opponents.
