May the renewed jockey, currently stationed with James Owen, be able to sustain his promising comeback ride at Newton Abbot this Friday?
Jockey Nathan Howie Returns to the Saddle in Britain, Prepares for RCA Summer Jumps Championship Finale
Nathan Howie, a 30-year-old jockey, has made a successful return to racing in Britain, riding for trainer James Owen. This month, Howie has been on a winning streak, with victories on Chillhi at Stratford and Shantou Lucky in quick succession.
On Saturday, Howie will be in the saddle once again, this time in the Colin Willcocks Memorial Handicap Hurdle (4.20) and the RCA Summer Jumps Championship Finale Handicap Chase (4.55). In the former, he will ride Chillhi, a horse that he expects to go out in front, similar to its Stratford win.
Regarding Chillhi's performance in the Colin Willcocks Memorial Handicap Hurdle, Howie stated, "Chillhi could run another good race. I expect him to go out in front, just like he did at Stratford."
As for Shantou Lucky, Howie is confident that the horse will be in the same form for the RCA Summer Jumps Championship Finale Handicap Chase. Shantou Lucky is stepping up in trip for this race, and Howie will be in the saddle once again.
Howie's return to Britain came after an accident in July 2024, where he was unseated at Clairefontaine and broke his leg. This unfortunate event prompted him to return to Britain, where he joined Owen's yard in December 2024 and resumed race-riding in June 2024.
Before his accident, Howie had 58 winners in France for various trainers. He had also ridden once for Chris Wall on the Flat in 2017 before moving to France.
Regarding his current position at Owen's yard, Howie expressed his satisfaction, stating, "I'm happy to be riding winners for Owen's yard. The yard is a great place to be involved with."
However, no new information about Howie's overall performance or feelings about the Owen's yard was provided.
Meanwhile, Shantou Lucky won just a day prior to the RCA Summer Jumps Championship Finale Handicap Chase at Worcester. According to Howie, the horse is expected to be in the same form for the upcoming race.
In the RCA Summer Jumps Championship Finale Handicap Chase, there is no information about a potential pace for the Colin Willcocks Memorial Handicap Hurdle. Nonetheless, racegoers are eagerly anticipating Howie's performances on both Chillhi and Shantou Lucky.
