Max Ophüls Film Festival with 46 World Premieres - Max Ophüls Film Festival Unveils 146 Films and 57 Premieres in 2025

The 47th Max Ophüls Film Festival is set to take place in Saarbrücken from January 19 to 25. This year’s event, themed Opening Doors to the Cinema of Tomorrow, will showcase 146 films across nine venues in Saarbrücken and four other locations in Saarland. Organisers have planned 203 screenings, with 57 films competing for 18 awards totalling €123,500 in prize money.

The festival will open with Do You Believe in Angels, Mr. Drowak? by Swiss director Nicolas Steiner. Among the 57 competing films, 46 will have their world premieres. The entries span four categories: feature films, documentaries, mid-length films, and shorts.

The Max Ophüls Film Festival continues to highlight emerging talent and innovative cinema. With a mix of competitions, premieres, and tributes, the event will run for seven days across multiple venues in Saarland. The reduced federal funding reflects ongoing financial adjustments for cultural festivals.
