Car Catches Fire Due to Stuck Mattress Underneath
An unfortunate incident occurred in Munich on Tuesday, resulting in a car going up in flames. The driver had no idea that a mattress had become jammed under their vehicle, leading to a smoky situation. Passersby alerted the driver about the issue, and they promptly pulled over at a garage for assistance.
Upon investigation, garage employees discovered a mattress stuck between the car's wheels, which was currently engulfed in flames. It appears that the mattress had caught fire from the hot exhaust pipe, causing the vehicle to become a total loss.
Interestingly, this is not an unheard-of occurrence in Upper Bavaria. In the past, another driver encountered a similar situation, with a mattress jamming under their car and igniting due to the exhaust pipe's heat.
Fire department spokesperson suggested that the driver likely swept over the mattress, unaware of its presence. It was a standard foam mattress, around 90 by 200 centimeters in size. Unfortunately, the driver failed to notice the mattress nestled in an unsafe spot beneath their vehicle.
While mattress fires caused by getting stuck under a car near the exhaust pipe are not typically documented in consumer product-related fatalities, general warnings exist about the risk of burns and fires when parking or stopping a vehicle close to flammable items like mattresses. These safety precautions emphasize maintaining a safe distance from such materials to avoid potential fires.
In light of this incident, it is crucial for drivers to remain vigilant during their journeys, keeping a close eye on their surroundings and ensuring that no hazardous items linger beneath their vehicles. Safety should always be a priority on the road.
